March 29th, 2008 by suz

Klamath Ice Sports is looking for some energetic, fun loving, hard working adults to join its team for the upcoming 2008/09 ice skating season.  Perhaps you have a friend, neighbor, co-worker, or family member who doesn’t know they would like a job at the ice arena!  Perhaps you yourself would like to join our team!

Bleacher Heating System Fundraiser….$13,771 left to Raise!

November 19th, 2007 by suz

Thanks to five industrious skaters, the HEAT YOUR SEAT fundraising campaign is $787 closer to its goal.  Three adults and two youth skated laps on Saturday, November 3rd to raise money to install a heating system over our bleachers.  Thank you Susan, Linda, Virginia, Riley, and Adrienne for your hard work and for your support.  The top prize in each category was a $150 credit towards lessons, leagues, or a private ice rental!  Riley earned a free field trip for his class at Pelican Elementary, too!

An additional $1154 has been raised through merchandise sales and ice show donations as of March 2008.

The heating system will cost in excess of $21,326 and $7,555 has been raised to date.  Avista Utilities has already installed the natural gas pipeline and we thank them for their extremely generous donation; their donation is not included in the total cost of the project!  Let’s raise the rest of the money and get that heating system installed!

The Sixth Annual Figure Skating Spectacular - IMAGINE - was Fabulous!

October 16th, 2007 by suz

Thank you Darlin, Irina, Jozef, and all of the very talented amateur skaters for making our sixth annual ice show and special clinics such a huge success!

About Our Professional Skaters

Darlin Baker is a professional figure skater and ice skating instructor who makes her home in Sun Valley, Idaho, where she has appeared regularly as a principle in the popular summertime weekend ice shows there for 15 years.  She is also the choreographer of the Sun Valley Ice Show Children’s Ensemble number.   Darlin has had a lifelong involvement with the sport and the art of figure skating, having been born into a family of professional figure skaters.  Originally from Orange, California, she grew up and trained in Salt Lake City and is one of seven children who, along with her parents, five sisters and one brother, has skated professionally with both the Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice.  Darlin is a USFS Double Gold Medalist and International Medalist in Ice Dancing and a US Open Bronze Medalist.  For the past five seasons, she has starred in the Klamath Ice Sports Annual Figure Skating Spectaculars and has conducted a series of very popular figure skating clinics at the Bill Collier Community Ice Arena.

Irina Grigorian is a well-known professional figure skater who has toured the world performing a variety of specialty skills on ice skates, most notably with multiple hula-hoops or fire hoops, amoung other unique props, and who holds the title of American Open Professional Ice Skating Champion.  She recently completed her fifth consecutive annual tour of more than 100 cities with Tom Collins’  "Champions on Ice".  In addition, she performs regularly in Las Vegas and in the weekend ice shows in Sun Valley during the summer.  She has appeared in more than 30 different ice skating productions and has toured with both Ice Capades and Holiday On Ice.  A Moscow native, she became a citizen of the United States in 2002.  She and her husband make their home in Las Vegas.

Jozef Sabovcik is a World Professional Skating Champion, an Olympic Bronze Medalist, a two-time European Champion, a six-time Czechoslovakian Champion and a noted professional figure skater who is known the world over.  He was the first man to have successfully landed a quadruple jump in competition and lives with his wife and two sons near Salt Lake City, Utah, where he trains and coaches.  He has toured with Champions on Ice and appears regularly in the Sun Valley Ice Shows each summer. With a penchant for skating to rock music, the long-haired, blue-jean clad skater was named “Jumpin’ Joe” by his Olympic podium-mate, Scott Hamilton. He continues to appear in skating shows around the world, entertaining skating fans with his spectacularly high jumps and his signature full-layout backflip.
